We're pleased to feature Stephanie Troeth as our Girl Geek Dinner speaker for the month of May who will give a talk on "Better Living Through Computing Algorithms" @ the Station C coworking space on May 28th.
About Stephanie:
Stephanie is a strategist in the fuzzy realm where interaction and technology overlaps, and often a cat herder in teams of multiple talents across different cultures and disciplines. Currently, she works at Further Ahead, a web development and accessibility consultancy based in Ottawa, and she is the interaction technical lead for the Wuntoo project.
For almost a decade, she has been actively involved in grassroots organizations for advocating best web practices through community leadership, education and public speaking - most notably through the Web Standards Project. Recently, she was a speaker and panelist at SXSW Interactive on multilingualism and internationalization.
While it seems unlikely, her true passions are for music and the arts, poetry, literature, good food, good wine and all such other things that make life worthwhile.
About the topic:
So it happened one day that a project manager Stephanie was working with complained about having too much to do and not being sure how to attack the pile.
"I use traditional computer processing algorithms," she said nonchalantly, and got an appropriately confused look. She then went on to explain some basic algorithms that helps computer systems prioritise what to do under certain circumstances to ensure maximum "useful" efficiency.
"I was partially kidding, but, well, only partially. Is there a genuine possibility whereby we can use formulated ideas from a particular technical field to address day-to-day efficiency?"
This talk is just going to be about just that.
