The blog makes it official

After the successful launch of the Montreal Girl Geek Dinner Group on Facebook (150 members!) - it's time to create a blog (the wiki is on the way!!!)

The first dinner was held on November 20th at La Petite Marche and featured a presentation by Heather Kelley- a game designer and multimedia artist who is co-founder of the Kokoromi experimental game collective. Heather was kind enough to take time out of planning for the ubercool Gamma 256 event (think cool indie games + electronic music) held on November 28th.

Here's some additional information on Heather for those who missed out on the event.

Heather's work in commercial games spans a range of content, from web games for girls, to AAAgames on PS2 and Xbox, to licensed games for Nintendo DS.

Her personal work has included MOO installations, interactive video projections using Quake3 and Unreal Tournament, and games in Processing.

Her experimental prototype Lapis won the Game Design Challenge at the 2005 Montreal International Game Summit.

She served for five years as Chair of the International Game Developers Association's Special Interest Group on Women in Game Development, and she holds a Master's degree in New Communication Technology from the University of Texas at Austin.

It was a great time, featuring the biggest plates of food I've seen since this side of Lilliput and conversation around a myriad of topics (from waffle spray to food allergies, public relations to drupal and speculation around the reasons why girls aren't attending / speaking at Montreal tech events)

Thanks to all of you who attended and to Simon who captured photos of the evening.

If you have any suggestions for future venues, speakers- anything please post them either on this blog, on the facebook group on on the future wiki page. Also, if you wish to help organize, blog, translate - please please please contact me.
