In case you missed it, the second Montreal Girl Geek Dinner was held this past January 29th at Le Commensal on St. Denis and featured a session on Open Source by Angela Byron.
It was great to see some new faces at the dinner table and good to catch up with the regulars who we'd met from the previous event.
After we slurped down our lentils, tofu and rice, we received a double serving of Open Source goodness from Angela who's presentation was not only informative and engaging but was flexible enough to hold the attention and pique the curiosity of everyone from the budding geek girl to the ubertech-gal. Angie made the important point that anyone can get involved with the Open Source movement and not just code junkies. Marketers, translators, copy editors, bug reporters and a myriad of other methods for throwing your support behind Open Source projects are available.
Check out this link to view Angela's presentation (and to see some alarming stats on the gender breakdown between women working in the development of proprietary software in comparison to those working in the Open Source movement.
If you are so inclined, there is a Montreal Drupal Users Group if you'd like more information on how to get involved or wish to get more involved in the local community.
