Recap - June Montreal Girl Geek Dinner with Christa Fairchild

The Montreal Girl Geeks were fortunate to have Christa Fairchild as our guest speaker for June's Dinner on the subject of 'Negotiation Skills for Women'.

As a businesswoman, marketer and artist, Christa is well-experienced in the art of communication and as such, her presentation was full of energy and inspiration. Rather than bemoan the current state of the earning power of women, Christa presented the reality of these facts and statistics and then proceeded to highlight techniques to take control to change this situation. In frank terms, she explained that 'if you don't ask- you don't get'.

Christa was thorough in her analysis of how we can better negotiate given that listening and collaboration are core strengths that women possess as character traits. That being said, by listening to the person sitting across from you and putting yourself in their shoes, you are better able to see where they are bargaining from and understand their point of view.

We really do have many more opportunities available to us than we think and by employing Christa's suggestions (ie: go for job interviews as a means to both see how much you are worth on the market as well as to provide another alternative should your negotiations not go as planned), women will be better set for moving upwards into the careers that they aspire towards.

Christa was exceptional and I do hope she'll speak at another Montreal Girl Geek Dinner in the future.

We had dined at Resto Brodino in Outremont which provided an open and airy atmosphere as well as some fantastic Italian cooking. This restaurant is certainly MTL Girl Geek approved! Thanks again to the fabulous Christina Mucciardi from Cook and Date for this restaurant recommendation. Well done!
